Yes, I can re-assign a product to a different user if needed, but there are some caveats:

  • The associated todo's would remain linked to the original maker
  • Those todo's would no longer be linked to the product (i.e. the hashtag would not be a link anymore)
  • The product page would essential be empty
  • Things might break unexpectedly, but I'd fix these.

That said, I do plan on adding support for multi-maker products in the not-to-distant future which would alleviate most, if not all of these problems.

So I wouldn't worry about hijacking your client's brand.

@pretzelhands is correct. The command is meant for the initial PR launch of your product. You can only use it once per product. It notifies the group, adds your product to the "Launched Today" section on the homepage, and sets the launch date on your product page.

It's up to the maker to decide what he/she considers as the product being launched, but typically I'd expect it to coincide with a bigger PR push (Product Hunt, etc).

Support for additional version launches and feature releases will likely be added later. For now I suggest just using the /done command.

Personally I'd like to track the following (roughly in order of importance):

  • MRR (monthly recurring revenue)
  • Total number of paying customers
  • Total number of featured startups on BetaList (very specific to that product obviously)
  • Total number of products on WIP (also quite specific)
  • Launch of a product (although we now have /launch for that)
  • Launch of major new features (maybe this should be a separate feature though similar to /launch)

I recently switched all of ~100 my domains to Namecheap. My reasons:

  • Good prices (make sure to ask for the volume discount if you transfer a lot of domains at once)
  • Availability of most .TLD's you'd need
  • Website is relatively easy to use
  • Not too many up sells (unlike GoDaddy, etc)
  • Good customer support (haven't needed it much, but when I transferred all my domains to them they were extremely helpful making sure everything went okay).

Really depends on where the people you want to bring together hang out, which apps they use, what kind of behavior you're looking to stimulate, etc.

Schedule as few things as possible.

The truth is that I'm very bad at predicting ahead of time what I'm in the mood. And, I'm much happier if I can do what I want to do at any given point in time. That might sound privileged, and maybe it is. However, I do think many people take a busy schedule for granted or even as a point of pride. Makes them feel important or something. I think people got it backwards and personally take an empty agenda as a point of pride. It means freedom.

Of course some things you do have to schedule and it's not always. Scheduling a dinner with a friend that lives far way? Of course! However, phone calls, meetings, and even joyful, social activities I prefer to schedule last-minute so we're sure it really is the thing everyone involved wants to do right then.

That said it's still a habit I'm actively cultivating. Most of society still lives a schedule-driven lifestyle and so it's often easier to agree to a pre-scheduled activity than do things in the moment. I still regularly agree to something scheduled way in advance because it doesn't feel real yet. I always regret it when the time finally comes. Getting better at it though!

I think typically $9.99-type pricing converts better because it sounds disproportionally cheaper than $10.

The reason I use $10-type pricing for WIP is because I want it to feel more like a financial contribution than a product/money exchange. Using psychological pricing wouldn't make sense in that case as it has this smell of trickery to it. Especially for people familiar with the concept of pricing psychology like us makers.

For some other products I do use psychological pricing however. Really depends on the product and customer.

It's indeed similar to the Baremetrics dashboard, but a lot simpler. At least initially.

I actually built this for BetaList about half a year ago, but never publicly launched it. I could implement it for WIP rather quickly. I just want to make sure it's worth the continued support. If we can get a decent number of makers to pre-commit I'll invest the time into building the feature.
