- Coding currently in PHPStorm (formerly Sublime Text 3)
- Quick edits via FTP still in Sublime Text 3
- And I'm building something custom for my note-taking needs (Because shipping!)
I'd love a little digest of launched products with perhaps a word or two from each maker.
Stuff like how long it took to make and how the WIP community helped them etc
Uff. Difficult question, but certainly ripe for discussion.
I can pull out #dotcolors as an example. I'm currently planning a rewrite for it since I like the product idea, but the code base was pretty experimental and the structure has just gotten. Uh. Wild.
Generally I tend to refactor if I'm happy with the overall structure of the project. Then I just pick out single features and refactor that. On the other hand when I feel that a codebase becomes confusing and unmanageable for me I tend to be pretty harsh with rewriting.
That sounds about right.
You're welcome. As for mobile applications, I'm not entirely sure how yours would be structured, but I've seen many apps that have an "About" page. Maybe you can use this as the place to place your credit!
They have a crazy amount of icons in all sorts of styles and they're free!
Most of them are under a CC-BY license, so you just need to give credit on your page. :)
Thanks Richard for the suggestion! Speaking of ethics on using icons, what if we want to use it on mobile apps? Where should we put the credit? 🤔

+1 for the noun project. also one icon costs $1,99 if you want the royalty free license - which is a fair price 🙂
Ah, yeah. That should be a good deal. Thanks Tammo! 😊
Been a paying member since they launched 🙌
For dotcolors.co I launched everywhere on the same day.
First on PH (due to the midnight timing.)
Then on HackerNews (who just flat out hated on me)
Then on IndieHackers (who loved it)
I then went on to do some research regarding other platforms to launch on after implementing some early feedback from the above platforms and finally launched on DesignerNews. (Which got me featured in all sorts of places)
So I think PH, HN and IH are good to gather initial feedback and see if anything is still rough around the edges and then you can deliver a semi-polished product to your niche. :)
A tip I recently read on IndieHackers is to use your projects name and enter it into Google Fonts. See what sticks and edit it a bit.
In a way, yes. If I could rephrase it I would mean that YT is more focused on the video content. Facebook/Twitter tend to be focused on getting you to click on other links and feeds. I might be completely off, tho!
I think YouTube is the most accepted format on Reddit in terms of sharing content.
Mostly because the content is provided directly without further distractions.
Then Twitter, then Facebook. I've rarely if ever seen a Facebook link in the subreddits I frequent.
Maybe they have the same allergic reaction to it as WIP does. 😁
Just my 2 cents.
Does directly without further distractions mean people wouldn't go into the link itself and subscribe and stuff?

ProductHunt, Twitter, Indie Hackers, Reddit.
I read (but mostly don't participate in) Hacker News.
