Monthly WIP Wrapped? Ideas?

If you haven't seen it yet, WIP Wrapped ( https://wip.co/wrapped ) summarizes all your activity of the last year into one nice overview.

Some of you have asked whether this can be a continuous feature throughout the year. For example, by having a "Wrapped" each month.

Before I start implementing this, I'd like to get a better understanding of what everybody wants.

  • Would you be interested in a monthly summary in the style of WIP Wrapped?
  • Is monthly the right timeframe, or do you prefer weekly, quarterly, or something else?
  • Anything that is missing from it?

WIP Wrapped is really nice! Thanks for doing it :)

Perhaps use a little less text? The recap with emojis (at the top) is the best :)
And find and highlight redundant todo's (with a short comment/joke)? E.g: I scrolled through all my todos to count the number of times I went to the gym in 2024.

to answer your question; yes, a monthly wrapped WIP could be interesting.

I like that kind of stats: How many times I went to the gym, or number of bug fixes, number of photos shared, and custom to each one. @marc, if you could somehow gather them customized based on the todos could be really nice.

Nice yes we could do some analysis on each todo and categorize them.

Will need to think through the implementation a bit more. I think it's affordable enough to analyze each todo once. But anytime you change the categories, it would need to re-analyze ALL todos which could get costly.

Yesss, I was about to request this. I like the monthly wrapped, just the way it is now, to get an “objective” POV of what I’ve accomplished in the month. I feel like it could be a great way to help one adjust and plan for the coming month when needed.

Monthly sounds great. Especially those moments you feel down due to progress having a nudge on all the things you accomplished in a given month sounds great.

Just not as grande as the yearly one. Just a positive vibe one for motivation is good enough.

I like that. It wouldn't be a dedicate page for the month, but maybe some overview of all your month reviews. Or maybe you can see everyone's January review in a single place and it becomes more of a community event.

Especially if the monthly reviews are a lot shorter it might be fun to read those of others too. With the ability to like and comment.

An email would be more than enough. there is no need for dedicated pages (people don't care for other people, but instead want to show off their awesome progress).

you could put some nice graphic to promote sharing as well like Google search console when ur clicks go up. would make people share

ie "Congrats on hitting your 384 day streak! this month you completed 82 tasks. This is 64% more than last month. here are a few highlights"

Is it possible it can do a running list through the year? Like end of Jan, it shows Jan wrapped.. then in end of Feb, it shows Jan and Feb, and so on, snowballs till the end. I think monthly is a good timeframe. If too much, maybe quarterly. Weekly is probably too much, and few would review things weekly i think. Maybe the tone of the text could be more informal, fun, indie speak too

That's an interesting idea. Incrementally building it up. But it would mean we no longer have a yearly reveal of everything you did. You probably wouldn't read all the previous months anymore, since you already did so before.

As for the language, I agree it was a bit too corporate. I actively worked on making it more informal, but I never quite got it where I wanted. I will need to experiment with some more approaches.

A short snippet monthly. A slightly longer wrapped for Quarterly, and a huge one yearly!

Making it once per year creates an event that is special, instead of adding to all the other noise of emails and notifications that we all get. More is not always better.

A monthly summary might be useful somehow, but I don't know if I'll check it or not.

Yes great point. I don't think we'd get the same effect if we'd do it monthly, because you're more aware of what you worked on the last 30 days anyway.

I think I'll ship a prototype at the beginning of February, reviewing the previous month. To see people's feedback.

What this comes down to is essentially storytelling, like with any other story. Where you are building up something over a year, and then you get a payoff at the end, which is why it can become very satisfying.

Loved it; wouldn't check it monthly personally. The effect of going back the whole year at once, with everyone else simultaneously, is what made it impactful and "share-worthy".

Perhaps worth also highlighting most liked todo/comment/photo or most commented question, etc. ?

I loved it, I stopped sharing back in October but your email today made me come back. I loved reviewing the year and it's perfect feature for WIP.

I think weekly might be too much, but monthly seems good for me. Then, you can also do quarterly with a different granularity and, finally, yearly.

No need for a monthly summary. Yearly is much cooler because it shows a ton of progress at once and it's why other platforms also stick to a yearly cadence I think

Negative: I think it just had a lot of text. Higher level summary per project would have been nice instead of bullet points. Not sure how to best word it though, copy is not my strong suit 😅

This is so cool. Thanks for Wrapped 🚀
Monthly wrapped would be great idea. Also, Wonder we can save yearly one as PDF or something

A summary of the month would be nice. Kind of like a “what have I done this month” to keep you motivated. The wrapped surprise was dope as fuck btw.

This is great and a nice way to end the year. Monthly or quarterly would be fine too, but annual is good enough imo.

an overview to see how far one has come from a month ago? i like the yearly wrapped, too.... bit nostalgic. but the push to see what was really achieved (or not achieved) in the last month might help push one forward to get to the next level

Monthly is great, I was actually thinking the same. Weekly is too much and quarterly is also really great.

I actually really like the bullet point text summaries, but I think the quality of the text on the yearly was not that good as e.g. words were often repeated and it sounded too AI-like at times.

Keep the yearly one super special (like what it was as a recap of 2024).

My preference is once per quarter with a yearly wrapped to tie it together.
That would be the perfect flow for me. Long enough to not feel annoying and to get good quality summary. Short enough to keep you thinking about it occasionally when you go to post.

I know I got a bit of motivation to post higher quality photos here after seeing my wrapped.
