I wrote an article about my thoughts on this a few months ago and it seemed to resonate with peeps since it's now been read nearly 100k times: blog.stephsmith.io/you-dont-n…
I think the key takeaways are:
- Determine your focal points and eliminate noise outside of that
- Think of time in tiers
- Focus on "absolute" tasks
As for routines:
- Do the hard stuff in the morning or when you have the most energy
- Time block
- Measure/track your progress
Great read, thank you for sharing.
Awesome Steph! Thanks for this great read. It resonated strongly with my current situation 🙂 I’ll work on identifying my absolute tasks.
Great post. I can just sign this. Id did/do #fullstackjob beside having a 70h+ job and all is about time blocking, tracking progress, focus, and yes, do the hard stuff in the morning (I start around 3:30 am :-) )
I was just there! It's a really nice/cool city but not many nomads and expensive. I personally prefer Kyoto.
If you do end up going, happy to send tips.
Ghost is solid, especially if you want the front-end written for you. I wrote a post recently about how to hook it up to a $5 Digital Ocean Droplet: blog.stephsmith.io/setting-up…. With Ghost you can design your own themes as well, however I haven't tried that.
If you want a truly headless CMS, I tried Butter (buttercms.com). They have good docs and really easy to set up (or at least it was with Node).
1) The Power of Habit (or Atomic Habits is apparently also good but I haven't read it)
2) Algorithms to Live By (best book I've read in a long time)
3) Man's Search for Meaning
4) Give and Take
6) The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F***
If you're interested in more books in the p-dev area, I recommend more here: stephsmith.io/books
100% good tech. I spent years w a laptop people called “the brick” that wasted so much time and when I finally bought a Mac, my productivity went through the roof. Good headphones that don’t break every other month. A kindle that lets me read easily anywhere and is light af, and syncs easily with Readwise so my highlights are easily on my comp.
Also SIM cards w data everywhere, even if it’s just a short trip.
Thanks for sharing!
@yuri_kriachko If your girlfriend has any questions, this is one of my favourite things to talk about.
Oh, I thought the article is too short because the end of the page was exactly on the subscription form :D I realized it is actually longer only after this second message. Will read it through! Thanks.
