He's right. Practice, practice & practice. Nobody is good at design, they just do it 100 times & they find their style like Marc did with WIP, Betalist & now Caption Cat. Just spend hours at it & you'll get good.

Also, if you can now, just use Flexbox or Grid, no UI framework is needed now in 2018. Everything has become much simpler. If you want to learn how to learn CSS then trust me on this one, try flexboxzombies.com & complete it. After that you'll know how to learn CSS or anything else in the world. Its the best course I've taken in the world. Gamification done right.

I would say write blog posts on Big Medium Publications like StartUp or HackerNoon or FCC. Choose one from toppub.xyz or toppubs.smedian.com

But first write it on your blog & then 1 or 2 weeks later submit to the Medium publication using the Canonical URL as shown here in my answer so you get all the Google SEO juice.

Then write a book with 2x more content & earn 💰💰💰

To a dumb person like me, here are the Wikipedia definitions -

A Utopia is an imagined community or society that possesses highly desirable or nearly perfect qualities for its citizens.

A Dystopia is a community or society that is undesirable or frightening. It is the opposite of Utopia.

I believe we live in between. Nothing is perfect or nothing is worse. Everyone has something good & something evil. In a 100 years, this will still be true. And same goes million years later. Each morning when I read the newspaper, there are 100s of bad things but there are also some good things. One thing my best friend taught me is look through the good in a person, remove all the negativities from that person & you'll find that person beautiful 😉

My favourite Series, Dexter is a good example of Good & Bad things in the world. So watch it, if you haven't already.

Another thing I watched recently is this video of Jaime Lannister from GOT spoiler warning, it describes very well that no one is all perfect & no one is all worse.

One thing that kills me is Regret. So I suggest you to take the Grandpa Test.

Imagine, you're very old, sitting in a wheelchair & think about this very moment, would you regret not taking the plunge? If you're gonna regret it even a little at some later point in time then do it now. You'd be happy that you tried & failed rather than just not trying enough. That goes for everything in life. You just gotta keep putting in the work.

For example - Take a look at Gary Vee. I mean who the hell would have thought selling beers on YouTube would make you a multi-millionaire but he did it because he kept at it.

Personal story - I did it. I didn't take a job after graduating. That was last year 1st June when it all got over. I have made a lot less money than I could've by taking a 9-5 job. Still haven't made my startup dream come true. I was busy watching The Walking Dead & many other shows but I still worked on other things & learnt a ton of shit. So $0 doesn't always mean complete utter failure, it means you know what doesn't work for you. For me, watching TV shows doesn't work LOL so I reduced from 1 show / day to 1 show / week 😂
