figure out why my docking station was not allowing to connect my external monitor -- I needed the specific usb-c cable the docking station came with , and not a generic one

asked OWC to refunded me for their OWC dock hub because it only works with some Apple adapters which I can daisy chain and not need the OWC hub. Super meh-ful. #mylife
