What would you ask WIP AI?

If WIP had an AI chatbot that knew about your projects and completed todos. What are some of the questions you'd ask?

I'm wondering if it would be useful. Want to collect a list of use cases first. Some ideas I thought of:

  • Ask it what to work on next
  • Let me specify my goals and ask if I'm actually working towards them or getting distracted by other work
  • Ask what percentage of my work is marketing/development/support/bugfixes
  • Ask which other makers are working on similar tasks or have done so in the past
  • Have it constantly suggest useful content (YouTube, blog posts, books, podcast episodes, etc) related to what I'm working on

The last one sounds like a nice idea. What comes to my mind:
- Which other makers could be potential users of my product
- Which other maker have product that is complementary to the one I'm building.

by the last one I meant one before last :)

Chat about my product the same way I can chat about an excel sheet.

This could be nice and make us share more details about our products as one can get more value out of it too.

What does this mean? 😅

@marc You know how you can upload an excel sheet and chat with gpt about it, ask it to crunch numbers and analyse, spot opportunities ? Imagine uploading the entire logs of a product and asking wip ai anything related to it

Ah right. Yeah that's what I'm getting at with this post. What questions would you ask this WIP AI?

Will crunch numbers and find patterns, like how much time spent marketing vs building, revenue ups and downs, who are my customers, how much they spend, how often, how many recurring, from which countries, which profile spends the most, which plan has most customers, was there a spike in traffic when i tried this marketing hack, did this feature bring more customers etc etc. Do foresee might haver to upload or sync other data like from stripe or analytics to be able to answer those questions

I see. That would indeed require a many other data sources as well. Not sure that's a direction I'm willing to go, but perhaps I can provide WIP as a data source so service offering these kind of services. (I think ChatGPT will do this at some point)

Ah i see. Hmm for WIP data related questions, I can think of: how much % tasks spent on coding vs marketing, which time of year am I most productive, any patterns of highs and lows of work, which product has the best streaks, what kind of tasks i do the most, are they busy work or work that moves the needle on revenue. "I have this problem, who else had solved it or working on it before." "I have an idea, how many other WIP indies had built it, launched it, made it profitable."

when I read the question I directly thought of a way to know if someone is building something similar to what I am doing :)

also the suggestions of content would be really great for the content creators on the platform; might turn into a great way to kickstart a channel when you already very active here!

I do not want to use WIP like Yet Another Project Management software; it feels more like journaling in public to me so I'm less interested in the first ones

This is a FASCINATING idea!

Of the ones you listed, these are my absolute favorites:

  • Let me specify my goals and ask if I'm actually working towards them or getting distracted by other work -- VASTLY underrated!! It could stay pretty simple where we create goals for our projects (like specific KPIs or more qualitative goals) and it analyzes how effective our tasks are and generates a weekly/monthly/quarterly report for us. Or it could be more robust and something similar to WeekDone where we set OKRs and track progress towards them, and it's highly visual. (Highly recommend checking out WeekDone since it's insane value for free.)

  • Ask what percentage of my work is marketing/development/support/bugfixes -- as a freelancer, this would be IMMENSELY helpful because I struggle tracking my time between client work vs outreach vs marketing vs admin. I have Toggl set up, but I'm not as vigilant with logging time in there. Being able to set categories for different tasks then track how we're spending our time would be the gut punch I really need to stop lying to myself about how I'm allocating time.

I really like these:

  • Ask it what to work on next: If this were an option, we'd have to go back to adding unfinished to-dos, but I really like this idea. I currently use SkedPal, which is an AI calendar where I set priority level, duration, and time map, and it creates my schedule for me. It's pretty robust, but a simpler system here could be helpful, especially if it's paired with the goal setting one. (So for ex, it could say, "Based on your goals, these 3 tasks are recommended next." That way it gives us an option so we can choose which one we can do/want to do next.) Linking it to goals is something SkedPal does NOT do, and I've yet to find a product that does this.

  • Have it constantly suggest useful content (YouTube, blog posts, books, podcast episodes, etc) related to what I'm working on -- but only sparingly and not constantly because that would get overwhelming being inundated with resources. If it were a chat feature where we could ask, "Based on this task's objective, what are the best [format] resources to learn how to [do task]?" I'd find value in that. Or even being able to ask, "Who should I follow/which newsletters should I sign up for to learn more about [topic]?" would be pretty cool. Knowing that I do tend to get distracted by consuming content vs actually working, though, is my only hesitation.

The last one would take the focus off of WORK and put it on LEARN, and I think the ethos of WIP is that we're taking action and not getting distracted/paralyzed by information hoarding. It'd be a pretty fine line to walk.

Since I'm not technically a maker (yet) and more a freelancer and community builder, I, personally, wouldn't have much use for the similar tasks one, BUT it'd be fun for us to be able to search for people who'd be potential users/clients. :)

Great idea. It would be great to analyze the tasks I have done in the past so I can see what I spend most of my time on.

I always wondered if there were some way to generate posts for Wip, x, or whatever else based on git hooks / diff or commit msg

I find AI less and less creative these days. So for me, it's not much yet. But sounds like there is a lot of potential 🔥

For the examples I will provide, I would not envision a chatbot per say, but could be part of it. I was thinking more like "smart/AI Suggestions" where:

  • It would recommend you 1-3 metrics to track every week (to measure progress)
  • make suggestions on the next milestone you should be working towards
  • set revenue targets for you

I don't see myself using it. I use wip for keeping myself accountable. I know how to grow my business or what to go after.
