Testing a game (update: available on windows, mac, linux & browser (html))
Hey, can someone (or multiple someones) do me a favor super quickly and download the video game I made to see if it's playable then let me know?
Preferable someone who does not have Unity installed since I'm not sure if it's only playable for me because Unity is reading the .exe file.
Here's the link: https://teaandtachyons.itch.io/sky-miner
Thank you! :)
Update: I uploaded the files, so I'd love some test plays. There's still no exit button, though. I'll do that later tonight after a client call.
Update 2: There's an exit button at least.

Hey congrats on getting on itch, I'm getting the missing dll (no unitys installed on my pc rn)
@luke it looks like I needed to compress all the files from unity into a zip file then upload that. I just did that a couple minutes ago. Can you try again please?
works! cool game!
@luke fantastic! Thank you so much for testing it! 😀 I'm glad you like it too!
Is it Windows only? Downloaded but I don't see a MacOS Disk Image to mount or anything like that, just some .exe files for windows machines
I checked the build settings in Unity, and I checked Windows, Apple, and Linux. Let me double-check to make sure I did everything properly, though.
@ben figured out the issue: www.loom.com/share/917c2e1dd0…
I'll add it to the devlog list. I'm also figuring out how to export html so it can be played in the browser so people don't have to download anything.
@ben Finally figured it out and added the MacOS files! There's still no escape/exit button (yet), so you'd have to do the Mac version of ctrl/alt/delete to end.
Sweet, will give it a shot now. Thanks!
@cat RIP, doesn't seem to work. Also, the name of the app should probably be something other than Builds v2 haha
I basically just extracted the .zip and tried to open the .app file. Got this error. Dragged into Applications just in case, got the same error.
noooooooo 😭 Okay, I'll figure it out later this week.
@ben okay, I THINK I figured it out. I wasn't supposed to zip the .app folder because it breaks the whole thing 🥴
When you get a chance, can you try again?
No dice. I wonder if it's a "trust" thing where my mac doesn't want me opening some random game
@ben at this point, it might be. I had another friend try it, and it worked. I'm wrangling a few people on Threads to try it out, though.
I'm uploading version 3 now (figured out that quit button & I have a browser version in HTML).
No Linux binary in the package, so I cannot run it natively. But the game starts just fine via Wine.
Thank you for testing on Linux! I put it on my list to figure this out.
@fiiva I just added a Linux version! There's still no escape/exit button (yet), so you'd have to do the Linux version of ctrl/alt/delete to end.
Nice! Okay, tested again with the Linux version. It runs just fine :)
Only caveat is that the
Sky_Miner_v4_Linux_MonoBackend.x86_64file, which is the game executable, needs to be given execute permissions (iechmod +x Sky_Miner_v4_Linux_MonoBackend.x86_64).Fun so far - love that the spots you die are marked by grave stones.
Works fine on Windows 12, but I don't get a menu to exit the game when I click on Esc
Thanks for reminding me about this! I have to always force end it as well.
Or I can just trap people forever like the amazing digital circus 😂
And lots of indie games are great on Nintendo Switch, if you ever consider multi-platform support for a game
No Mac version in the .zip
I'll check back to see if it gets fixed in the next build.
I'll post in here once I figure it out! For some reason it's not even showing up as an option in the Unity build settings.
@joshmccoy Mac version is up! There's still no escape/exit button (yet), so you'd have to do the Mac version of ctrl/alt/delete to end.
cant be opened :(
Hey Cat, I am also getting this error.
nooooo you just got this error? I'll try to troubleshoot again.
That's the gatekeeper, right? I hate with all my heart.
Apparently, the only real way to test it (according to Apple support) is to try it on a fresh VM each time.
Only way to fix this is to disable Gatekeeper:
sudo spctl --master-disableHeeey very cool! Congrats on starting your gamedev journey!
I tried the browser version and it worked nicely. It's fun to play the game for a few runs.
Well done with randomizing the clouds and the things on top of them. The main issue I find with playability is that the jump is always the same height regardless of how long you press the space key. This means that sometimes even if you only need to hop over a small thing, you still have to wait for the full jump up and down until you land, before jumping towards the next cloud, so you lose a bunch of time and get left behind by the camera! :(
Hahaha but nice, it reminds me of the first few games I made for fun when playing around with Unity, but this one has nicer art and graphics hahah
Looking forward to the next updates!
