Question
Instagram followers "attack"?
Hi guys, I just checked our business Instagram after a while, and to my surprise, I see we got like 700+ followers. When I looked at the notifications, the account names were a bit suspicious, and they all followed 2 weeks ago. Obviously, this is some kind of an "attack"? We don't even promote our page yet and there's nothing there, but it's quite alarming to me. Do you think I should do anything?

Ugh. That is weird.
Not sure you can do anything about it. Also not sure if it's a targeted attack, or they are just creating fake activity to make these bots seem more real.
Maybe best is to just sit back and avoid investing too much into your IG account to see what happens next.
Yeah I'm not sure if gaining tons of followers can even be considered an attack, I mean, many people probably dream about it lol. But I don't care much as long as it's not harmful in any way I guess 🤷♀️
Yes, raise a request with Meta. The attack would be for them to see your content and ignore it to demote its reach. It is a play on Instagram algorithms.
Oh really? Damn, I can try to contact them then, thanks! I don't have any content there (yet) so I don't think they can do anything now though
Imagine their results if they put all that energy into their own growth instead of trying to tank someone else's.
Have you heard of this IG follower checker? It won't tell you who the fake followers are, but it'll tell you the percentage. Might be worth a shot.
Good luck!

That's great I didn't know about this tool, thanks!
I tried it but I'm getting a "No post for this user." error, probably because the account doesn't have any posts 😬
Oh that's so weird! I've only ever used it on mine and my clients' accounts, so there have always been posts.
I have a feeling those are all bots/stolen accounts (just a theory). I have a failed business that still has a fb page and somehow is still growing in followers. No activity on that fb page for years. I think people who trade in stolen accounts still have to keep them active by following random stuff, posting and liking from time to time. Just minimal activity to not get flagged as inactive. But not too much to get them flagged as a bot/stolen account. If you look at what some of these "folks" are posting, you might find similarities in that they all post really similar things, then could be all the accounts controlled by the same person/entity.
Yes, it looks like all of these accounts are somewhat with Arabic names, mostly women, 0 followers to a small number of followers, and a few super edited pics for posts/no posts. Creepy! I think I will have to try and report it, it's a shame that Instagram is not doing bot purges like X.
