Question
Anyone applied for Google Cloud ☁️ credits for AI startups?
I applied a couple days ago for its "start tier" (no funding required) and per their terms we do quality: https://cloud.google.com/startup/ai?hl=en
However, I was told by their sales that we'll have to commit 10K GCP spending, to get the 2k credits. Anyone had similar issues?

In 2020, I managed to reach their higher tier and secured $120k in credits as a self-funded startup. However, it seems that this is no longer feasible. Their offers have become increasingly restrictive, appearing to cater primarily to VC-backed startups that are likely to spend thousands or even millions if they succeed.
Now, for self-funded startups, a potential workaround is using a service like JoinSecret. I found this helpful when I tried it for services like MongoDB, etc.
Thanks Laurent. It does feel like they are being more restrictive. How difficult was the process for you while you were applying? I'll also checkout JoinSecret.
Hey yes I did this & got the credits from March 23 - March 24 100% covered (about 40k usd) and then March 24 - March 25 50% covered. The part about committing to spending is weird--but maybe I had already spent that in previous years.
not venture funded -- idk why i got the full amount
Thanks Luke. it does feel weird cuz i don't see anyone else mentioning spend requirement to get their lower tier credits ... How was your exp going through the process? I am currently had a few emails with a "xWF" representative, and seems like next step is to be connected to an "Account Executive"
I had to go through a lot rounds of emails too, yeah. They also were concerned I wasn't a rebranded version of a corporate scavenger hunt software by a similar name. It 4-5 months to finalize the deal. I had an Acct exec too -- and still talk to them this year.
That's funny 😂 Was the acct exec helpful? you know what, i later found out the 10k spending req is for getting acct exec.
Yeah he was! Definitely helped push the project along and advocated for the work being important, I thought at least -- good luck with it! hope it works out
Gotcha. thanks for the insight!
Update: I just got their 2K credit 🎉! Thanks Google.
Regarding the 10K spending requirement it seems to be a requirement for some other stuff. If you are building an AI startup, definitely try their program. 🍀
Great, it always takes me a few days to get approved, but always got it.
