I've used Mixpanel. It works decently enough, and you can run raw queries written as pseudo map-reduce functions on the dataset yourself if you want. It also has a free tier which is nice.

Segment for event capture. Then multiple tools to analyse - primarily GA; and more powerfully Amplitude. I'm not sure how much longer Amplitude will continue to be free tbh, because it's an enormous amount of value given for a free tool.

Matomo. Completely self hosted.
