Roast a habit tracker - tallymy.com

Hey everyone,

I would appreciate some roasting on a lightweight habit and satisfaction tracker. I decided to develop it when I had trouble sleeping and wanted to find some correlations with other aspects of my daily activities.ย

I've tried searching for other tools online, but most of them looked and felt horrendous. I also wanted it to be very similar to Github activity grid which I like a lot.

I would like to know:

ย  โ€” If the landing page is not too simple.
ย  โ€” If you wouldn't use it - why?
ย  โ€” If something if anything annoys you about the product.

Thank you!

I like the design and concept. Reminds me of Journalistic. I would prob remove paid version and reports. Go free for a bit with just 1 tally per user. Then get them excited with potential features that could come with a paid app. Also how did you come to $17 a year? Looks kinda odd. Maybe try $9-$10 a year for unlimited tallys. $15-$20 for reports and other features? Iโ€™ll be sure to follow this app.

Hey @davidcotton ๐Ÿ‘‹

Thank you so much for the feedback and for sharing journalistic!

Indeed, the pricing is somewhat arbitrary. However, I really don't want to have too many plans for this product. However, I'm curious about trying out the fully free version for now.

Couple thoughts:

  1. The landing page is really simplistic. I think if I didn't know you, I probably wouldn't have signed up for it because I didn't see anything compelling or persuasive. (But that's just me.)

You can enhance it by:

  • mentioning the advantages of a simple, lightweight tracker vs a complex one (i.e. distractability from actually doing the habit, ease of use, etc.)

  • why you decided to make this when so many other trackers exist (telling a story)

  • comparing and contrasting different tracks and what makes Tally My different/better

If you wanted to, you could also create content around habit forming and behavioral change (i.e. different tips to sticking with habits, why habits are tricky to stick with at first, the importance of daily habits, how to choose a habit to start with, how many new habits to try at one time, when to add new habits, etc.).

  1. I'm not seeing a place to change the time zone settings. It's still Thursday for me, but it marked off Friday's box. This could get messy for people. Not sure how easy that is to add that feature.

(I poked around in the settings. Let me know if I missed this, though!)

  1. Dark mode as a pro feature?

  2. I'm unsure what kind of reports you'd offer, so more info about that. (And maybe an internal page about why tracking and reports help with habit forming/habit sticking).

  3. Community feature (free or pro). Basically get people WANTING to come back instead of them coming on day 1 and ghosting because they figure whatever they're currently using is good enough.

I do like the simplistic design and that we can make it private if we wish, though! :)

Sorry, the numbers got all wonky here because of formatting! I swear I know how to count to 5 ๐Ÿ˜น

Hey @cat ๐Ÿ‘‹

I can't believe you've spent the time to write an elaborate "roast" like this. Thank you, I really appreciate it!

Will try implement your feedback as best as I can. Was already thinking of adding timezones - so that'll appear shortly!

P.s. The formatting devil gets the best of us sometimes haha

@elvinas I have a (bad) habit of being extremely thorough in roasts and questions ๐Ÿ˜น I'm glad it was helpful!

Adding time zones would be one of the biggest enhancements for current users, for sure.

Expanding the landing page would be the best to get more users.
