Pretty sure adding to Search Console helps
It’s not documented anywhere, but I personally believe they use the Analytics data for that.
I couldn't find any facts to back this up. And I'm convinced it does not.
* Google already knows how much traffic you have (because they are sending it too you ;)
* The actual traffic amount wouldn't signal al that much (compared to e.g. searches on your domain/brand name, which is a signal)
* It would penalize legit sites not using Analytics. Why would they?
* And best... Google Analytics traffic can easily be spoofed/faked, hence not reliable
I like this thinking. Makes perfect sense.
