Discontinuing free plans for new WIP members
I wanted to let you know about some changes to WIP membership that will help us maintain the quality of our community and ensure the long-term sustainability of our platform.
Starting today, we will be moving to a paid membership model for all new members. Existing members will be grandfathered into their current plans.
Here are the key details:
Starting today, we will be moving to a paid membership model for all new members. Existing members will be grandfathered into their current plans.
Here are the key details:
- When you invite someone new to join WIP, they will be asked to subscribe to one of our paid plans: either $29/month or $199/year (which offers a significant discount for annual commitment).
- All new members will receive a free 1-month trial to experience the value of WIP firsthand before their paid subscription begins.
- There will be no changes for existing members. If you're a free member now, you'll remain a free member. If you're a paid member now, your price will not change.
- WIP will remain invite-only to maintain the high-quality, curated community we've built together.
WIP currently brings in about $1,000 MRR. It covers the basics, but to keep improving WIP, we need to increase that. Introducing paid plans for new members will help us do that while still focusing on growing a top-notch community.
My hope is that this shift to a paid model for new members will help us grow MRR a bit and curate an engaged community of invested indie makers. It also allows us to align our revenue with the value we provide and set an example of building sustainable businesses.
I'm grateful for each of you and the community we've built together. Thank you for your understanding and continued support 🙌
As always, please let me know if you have any questions or feedback

Any plans for One time PPP Pricing?
Not sure One time pricing is okayish
From the new onboarding flow:
Curious to hear what you think
nice. like seeing wip evolve 👍
Maybe 1 free month for invited, and non-invited can join immediately but have to pay right away?
Yes, interesting idea. I want to be careful letting random people in (even if they pay), but I can run it as an experiment
You could gift a month free for both invited and invitee if the invited reaches a specific streak.
Not sure about how the community grows rn and if that is a problem, but that would be a nice way to incentivize both to be active on wip
Nice yes I want to give some incentive to inviters as well. Giving free membership is a fun idea.
I also thought about money (e.g. 30% commission on all revenue from anyone you invite), swag (t-shirts, stickers, etc) or some website unlocks (streak fixes, etc)
how would that 30% commision on all revenue work? i don't get it
Let's say you invite someone that subscribes to the $199/year plan. Then you'd earn 30% commission on that $199 = $59.70/year for as long as they stay subscribed.
I'm not sure this is something I want to do as it cuts down into my profit margins a lot, but I do like the idea of having some incentive/reward for referring new members.
ah like an affiliate program. at first i thought the inviter gets the revenue off the invitee's products haha
Haha, that WOULD be a good incentive wouldn't it
the indie hackers version of a pyramid scheme
@marc I got an invite for wip.co a few months back. But for random reasons I only finished the account setup yesterday.
But I was only able to finish account creation after entering card details. I know this is an edge case. But is it possible to migrate my account to the free plan. Thanks!
Sorry, but I have to be firm on the paid requirement. Otherwise I'd have to extend this free plan to everyone who's ever received an invite but didn't redeem it.
That's reasonable. Thanks!
