Would something like WIP but for other habits succeed?
I built a product called Habit Huddle
#habithuddle
that's similar to WIP but instead of being for a community of makers, it's for any sub-community that wants to build any habit.
I'm in a huddle with my IRL friends and in other huddles with online groups and some are just solo. You can see my profile here: https://habithuddle.com/app/@navetzĀ
With Habit Huddle you can join anyone who is doing a habit or you can start a habit of your own and optionally invite friends to join you.Ā

This has helped me stay consistent with:Ā
- exercising every day
- reading every day
- working on Habit Huddle every day
- drinking water (so helpful)
It's also branching into a bunch of other positive habits that kind of stack on top of these other habits. For example I'm taking creatine as part of my water intake habit now.Ā
One of the benefits of having small sub communities is that it feels a lot more personal because the groups are usually smaller sizes of people you know. I love seeing people that I've grown up with start to read or exercise regularly or stretch or build businesses. Each user can pick their own habit and change at any time without losing their streak.Ā
Habit Huddle also works as a Discord bot that sits in one of your channels and allows you to checkin with other people. It actually started as a Discord bot similar to how WIP started as a Telegram bot. It also works on Android, IOS, and there's a PWA. I'll be releasing integration with other platforms in the future. Checkins sync across discord and web and mobile apps.Ā

Everything for this project finally came together mid December with the mobile app launches. I have been working on this every day for a long time. I know there's things I can't see because I don't have fresh eyes.Ā
My question is, do you think this can succeed? If no, why? If yes, do you have any advice on how to accelerate it? (best next steps I can take, in your opinion).Ā
Thanks everyone!Ā

I can't seem to upload screenshots in the main post @marc , trying here.
I think it has to start and/or stay very specific and I will point to existing communities and products to explain why.
750words.com - for writing 3 pages a day every day. community of writers. note this is writing for writing's sake, not necessarily to publish. I use this
goodreads and alternatives - the goodreads alternatives often have apps that track your daily reading progress. I have not been able to make it stick.
Apple Activity Rings - specific to exercise and movement but a huge audience with subgroups and such. But the tracking of the what is still specific (enough, additional examples of more specific communities within that)
Strava - I believed started as a way to track bike rides but they do running now as well. I dont think they were ever a habit tracker per se but similar vibes
AllTrails - similar to Strava but focused on hikes. Again, not necessarily a habit tracker
Challenge (or advantage) with many of these is that they can be automatically reported and for those that are not (like wip), they are natural to where the target user lives (ie indiehackers -> twitter -> wip is like twitter)
Great point. I did think about limiting it to one very specific sub-category but decided it's not the reason I built this.
So far I've only had one user ask for automatic tracking (github integration) but one main benefit of my app is that it directs your attention to who you want to become once per day. With automatic tracking you lose that and you lose the drive to build your habit.
