How do folks choose which of their projects to prioritize?

I bet many folks on here have a a bunch of projects they are or could be working on.

How do you decide which project(s) to prioritize?

Is it interest (to you), potential revenue, alignment with your skillset, maximizing learning or some simple rule of thumb?

Depends on mood; but over the long term it’s about $ / unit of time.

Nonetheless, I always leave room for new projects or challenges I’m excited about. It’s a must to explore and try new things.

Depends on where you are at.

I'm at the moment where I want to get traction on (any) one of my projects, so I start one, give it a bit of time and see if I can validate it, if not and I don't think there's something obvious I can do, then I keep it running and start another one. I will occasionally come back to tweak or fix a project based on feedback/things I learnt, etc.

Money always comes first for me since I'm a single parent, so freelancing is about 70-80% of my time. (Fortunately, some of what I do is game writing, so I get to have fun a lot.)

I only have two other projects: building my own studio and learning game development. The studio will make me money (membership & products); the game dev not so much right now (learning & making tiny video games). For these, I mostly prioritize by interest, but if people really want things I'd create through the studio, I'll prioritize that.

It depends what season you're in, though. What's your (or your audience's) core need right now, and which project(s) meet it?
