Hello it's me, introductions scare me πŸ˜…

What are you working on these days?

Hi everyone - thanks so much for having me here! I'm wrapping up two client projects and getting to ready to go on a proper summer camping holiday with zero client work (first time in a decade!) but from September I'm going to be starting ten personal projects. I want to do things for myself and my own enjoyment to refind my creativity and brainspace for that and little indie ideas rather than only clients or charities.

What can the WIP community help you with right now?

1. Accountability and inspiration. I mostly work alone and I'm ready to meet some wonderful, gentle and inspiring folks and be exposed to a whole other mode of ideas and thinking. I adore finding corners of the internet and world I never knew existed.Β

2. I really hit limits in thinking through my own ideas objectively - it's so much harder than for clients, so I'm really happy for things to be roasted and / or other angles or suggestions given. I'm Dutch so you can be direct and tell me it's rubbish!Β

3. I'd like to start slowly moving toward an income that's not solely reliant on my exchange of time (though I generally love what I do, I'd like it to not be the only paid thing).Β

What can you help others with?

If you could use some idea bouncing or someone's experience on any of these...

πŸ‘‰ I used to work insane hours but this year I made major changes to working less.Β

πŸ‘‰ I've travelled through a lot of the world slowly and also lived in quite a number of countries. Was a "digital nomad" (an uncool one) for 13 or so years. Never been to South America though.

πŸ‘‰ I try and spend my time working on projects that are "for good" or creative. I've worked on +200 client projects from tiny to huge so happy to give any thoughts on this.Β

πŸ‘‰ I work quite a bit in impact measurement / theory of change / systems change / environmentalism / biases / gender and all that jazz so can review anything in this space if you like.

πŸ‘‰ Working projects to donate to charities / splitting your income / where to share this money well / building communities or designing with community that kind of thing.

πŸ‘‰ I do research / design / product management / strategy / business modelling etc so if you need something there.

But really - I'm just a cheerleader from the sidelines excited that you're being brave and making something cool.

Something else you want to share?

πŸ₯ I moved to France so home is here now (by the mountains as I love to hike and swim and adore the waterfalls, lakes, biodiversity, culture, food and sunshine most of the year - unbelievably lucky). I met my partner in my second week here by some kind of stroke of luck so now he's stuck with me and I'm learning lots about how to help an incredible introvert guitarist make a small living from this.

🎡 I love Leonard Cohen, the MotoGP and pretty much live off music from the 70s and 80s so if you tempt me out of that era you're doing pretty well (happy to listen to your playlists if you think I might enjoy them!).

⌨️ I did FE dev for ten years but other than coding up some of my own projects I haven't done this for clients for years. Engineers keep me on my toes these days!

πŸ“· I do photography (and I think one of my personal projects will be trying to work out where to make a little home for this online). I have a pretty big issue with every CMS out there not being well suited for creating individually designed blog posts in a drag and drop manner for photography to make life simple where everything else plays nice natively and simply (if Squarespace's fluid engine applied to single posts this would work fairly well but alas). I'd like to influence Framer to fix this problem... it's way too big for me to solve!

πŸ™Š I still can't pronounce the "h" in English on words like Huge or Human. Also pronounce penguins wrong apparently.

Welcome Lisande – cool intro!

welcome, nice reading your story, look forward to your proejcts!

Welcome to the community! Really awesome intro, and I hope you enjoy your time off!

I took a vacation for the first time this year since 2010, and it was absolutely glorious. It recharged me so I could come back and work on projects with renewed energy.

Also, you mentioned looking for ways to make money that isn't trading time for dollars (or euros πŸ˜‚). Have you considered creating a paid community membership? You already have a LOT of expertise people would be willing to pay to access, so that wouldn't be a problem.

Anyway, I'm excited to see what projects you create!
