The paradox is that those who can (code) don't need it and those can't are turning to AI coding tools. They don't know enough to know the benefits of a well organized, well architected, and generally well built codebase.
I think the window of time to sell codebase templates is closing and the customer base is shrinking. Those who can will do it themselves, those who can afford it will hire a team, and everyone else will use AI coding tools. That is why vibe coding tools like lovable and bolt.new went mainstream and claude code is slowly growing beyond developers.
There is little value to buying a codebase now when AI can generate one for the same price and do everything else you want it to do.
But I am happy to be proven wrong and hope you find success in the product!
Oh, I could write a whole lot about code templates, having bought a few but my general consensus is they are never worth it as I can always build things myself and much faster now with ai.
IMO the code is the easy part so focusing on deployment is smart but I think it’s the configurations that’s the most annoying. Things like stripe, google auth.
I think they were a hard sell before and an even harder one now.
Yes that makes sense. I think 2 things are new, and related to AI. I can send a starter kit that include those and more because coding agents can use them and be able to do more. Two: there are more people who want to build but can’t start well.
