Please roast my app: convodraft.com
Hi everyone,
I've just released my first app called ConvoDraft.
It's a conversational tool to break writer's block, where users can have a quick chat with an AI assistant to articulate their idea so they can have a starting point for whatever they want to write. Once the call is finished, they get a written draft. There's a short demo video on the home page.
The business model is credit-based, $9 per 20 credits, that's 20 calls.
New users get 5 credits for free, and registration is only with Google for the time being (to reduce abuse I guess).
Not sure if the free tier is sustainable, but I figure it'll have cost me a bit to get some initial feedback.
Please roast the idea, the implementation, the landing page, and anything else you can think of.
Cheers!

I think free tier is smart to begin with, itās better to have some subsidized free users to try your product, and allow you to iterate.
I wonder if the pricing is too cheap. And as much as possible, you should aim for recurring revenue. If you wanna keep it cheap, Iād do $5 / month. For an app like that, itās an easy sell. Iād pay $5 thinking that if I donāt like it, Iāll cancel and thatās ok.
But you donāt have to be cheap! You could easily try $19 / month for a service like yours (or at the very least $10/month).
A model I really like (and would make sense when you reconsider the free tier) is a $1 trial. Geonode.com, which I used recently does exactly that, and I was sold. Give people 5 or 10 credits for trial at $1. Make the trial auto-renew after 7 days or something like that, renews at the new price of $10 or $19/month.
Other than pricing, I think the idea is awesome, I have writers block myself and that why I donāt write! Your product makes me want to start writing again.
Good luck man!
Thanks a lot for the feedback, Micha!
Good suggestions, I'll definitely look into raising the prices. Right now I only have 1 user that's not me and my wife tho š
At the moment I'm still gathering early feedback so I haven't started promoting it, but in the next few days I'm starting that too.
Never done marketing before, but the first few things I'm planning to try are posting on X build in public community, and finding some writing communities on Reddit to see if there's an angle there. I keep seeing on X that marketing apps via short form videos go really well on tiktok and instagram, so that could be a good channel too.
Please let me know if you have any suggestions how to promote, as I'm a total noob on that front. And congrats to your successful exit!
First impressions from someone who has very short attention span:
After reading this post and visiting the website, it was not clear instantly that it is a "tool to break writer's block".
What I understood from the website is that it is a tool to create draft posts using our voice.
Perhaps both are complimentary features but I feel it addresses different types of users. Just my first impressions.
Great work on adding a video in the landing page. I was impressed with how AI speaks with the user. I was not expecting that at al. Feels like a super cool feature. Is there a way to convey that in writing? i.e. AI speaks with us?
Hey Rinas, thanks for the feedback!
Maybe I can replace "Break Writer's Block with a Quick Chat" on the landing page with "Break Writer's Block with a Quick Voice Call", would that clarify the idea?
Thanks for watching the video. Not sure if I did a good enough job with it, and that was my 20th take so I said that's it, I'm hitting publish :D
You did a great job on the video, especially having the patience with 20 takes and more importantly getting it published.
Regarding the tagline, I not really an expert on this. Just shared my first impressions :)
