I just made a curated language site this weekend, what you think?

My instagram reel feed suddenly turned into language tips and jokes, so I thought it'd be good if there was a site where they were curated.

I built just built the whole thing this weekend using framer, got carried away and kindof got a finished mvp..no idea what it will do but was having fun making it.

Help

What should I call it??
I've gone with 'Language LOLs' so far cos it was the first thing that came to my head.
Also, I launched a language thing before called 'Little Lingua', so just left that as the brand for now, but want to replace it probs.
gone with LingoLOLs

What can it be?
What would you do with it?

I'd like to add more languages but this is enough for a launch! When shall I launch?

+ update re business model:
There's no business model, just made it for fun. I think if I do a newsletter for it, I can use my newsletter tool for that.. so it could work as a distribution method for my newsletter app

+ update, gone with https://lingolols.com/

Hey Graeme.
Well done finishing the MVP and having fun while making it. That's what really matters :)

Very creative idea. I'm not sure about the name Language LOLs, but also can't think of anything better atm.

This looks ready to launch to me. Whats making you doubt launching it now?

PS: Have you thought about adding a "play all" clips button on a language page? That might be nice compared to playing all the clips one by one. Saves customers a few clicks.

haha thanks Paul! Yeah, it's good to launch, I just wanted some ideas for the name so I can get a domain and buy the Framer Pro plan so I can remove the framer branding

Thanks for the "play all" idea! I'll figure out some way to do it, but it may not be possible. It was tricky to embed all the TikToks because the site goes super super slow and can barely load with multiple embeds - my workaround was to put screenshot images as placeholders, and only play one at a time..so if you click onto another one, it stops the anything that's playing so only 1 at a time

Hey, Graeme, I just checked out your site and subscribed to see if there was a login feature. (Doesn't look like it.)

  • I actually like the the name LingoLOL! It's a different take on learning languages that prioritizes fun rather than strict schedules (or a certain green owl threatening you). It's also a catchy name.

  • That's pretty clever curating content already created to make language learning more accessible. Plus, if your target audience is already on TikTok, they'd be familiar with TikTok culture.

What I'd like to see:

  • A community forum so people can interact and practice would be great!

  • Language-learning resources. It doesn't have to be mapped out so rigidly like other platforms, but something to help actually learn.

I'm a big believer in research, and I found this Reddit question with lots of answers and potentially great ideas you can take and run with.

(Reddit link: www.reddit.com/r/languagelear…)

The big thing is really knowing:
- who LingoLOL is for
- why they'd want to join

(For example, are these people who already know the language and want to just binge curated content in their target language? Or are these newbies who want to learn a new language using different forms of media? Do they want to be conversational fluency or do they want to be fluent enough to pass a fluency test?)

Starting with these will definitely help you know which features will be most valuable to your audience.

Woah thanks a lot Cat, that's really thoughtful and useful! The Reddit link is great too for helping with the next steps.

This project was just for fun last weekend and to play with Framer, so for this I didn't really think of 'who' that will be using it. With the traction though, it seems like I could start thinking about it in a business way!

I like the learning resources idea, but also, I go to a weekly language exchange and we always struggle to find a good game, so I was thinking to make something like headsup because their free version is way too limited and doesn't make sense to buy for the school!

The resources idea sounds easy though, so maybe start with that, or even a fun one like www.reddit.com/r/shitduolingo…

This is also really useful too, I'll explore it with my friends at the language school, since if they use it other schools/meetups are likely to as well!

@graeme_fulton Duo is unhinged 😂 Your Immortal Snail could take on that green owl any day though!

I just recently started using Pimsleur to learn Croatian, and it's way more practical. (But fewer jokes, so there's a trade-off.)

Something like headsup sounds like a lot of fun, especially if you want to focus more on group learning!

(Plus, from a business POV, you'd have plenty of UGC because who doesn't want to record their friend making a fool of themselves while having fun?! 🤣)
