Intro
π Hey, I'm Jules from France
What are you working on these days?
My last project, was dockam.com . I had some traction in the first week of building, but failed due to lack of commitment and execution π
I would like to build at least one little thing per month.Β
Right now, I have some things in mind, things I want to build for myself first:
- I'm learning a lot of things about mental models, and I am starting to compile them. I would like to do flashcards for me, but also for friends/family and for my future children. Mental models are very important, I think especially in the future with AI taking over
- I'm currently toying with electron and starting to ideate a flashcard app that would be similar to Anki, but with a more modern UI and a better user experience. My goal is to have something that I enjoy to use.
- I'm currently building my personal website which will be juleslibert.com, where I want to have a routine of writing at least one small article per month. I'm not too much into tweeting, but my coworkers and friends always tell me I should open a youtube/blog/x account to share everything I share to them. So I think it's a good start and a good acquisition funnel for future consulting work.
What can the WIP community help you with right now?
I am still shy about public building, tweeting is not really a habit for me. I hope WIP will help me on this side, especially everything here is tidied up in a small space with makers only. I hope WIP will help me train my shipping muscles.
What can you help others with?
I'm a tech guy, and as a CTO ran a web agency building tools for hedge funds and other financial companies for 5 years. I made a lot of mistakes and few successes.Β
Some examples:
- We made a lot of efforts to transform a service company to a product company, but eventually turned back realizing in our niche, it was way more profitable to build internal products that would speed up our time and manage 20+ agency customers with a team of 3.
- I'm not megarich, but I made some cash selling my company. Though, I left during my lock-up period and lost some earn out money because I was loosing this maker vibe I had with my cofounders. Corporate work is not my thing
- I did all the indie-hackers wannabe mistakes, such: building privately, spending too much time adding feature, too much building, too few marketing, not learning how to sell... You name it, I did it !Β
Also, I have strong skills in tech and strong beliefs about work, and the future of work. I'm working remotely and managing teams since 2016. Technically, I don't do bullshit, I'm focused, I'm going straight to the point.
So, I may have things you could learn from π.Β
Something else you want to share?
I hope I can make some good connections here too :)

Welcome to the WIP community, Jules!
The service-to-product pipeline is strong, and it seems like everyone wants to productize their business without pausing to think about the strategy behind that shift (especially if they're already strongly positioned and have built authority).
People forget the audience that buys services from them won't (always) be the audience that buys products from them, and not many people talk about that.
Welcome Jules and thanks for sharing about your journey!
