Where do people recommend for hiring freelancers?

Where do people here go for freelance assistance e.g. designers, developers or marketing?

I've used Upwork quite a bit in the past both personally and for my businesses. Interested in any other options especially for design and marketing where my experiences on upwork have been more mixed.

I'm a freelance marketer and usually get hired by people in my communities, both online and off. I've been doing this a while (since 2008), and the people who know their shit are likely not on Upwork or Fiverr.

If you're not opposed to paying premium rates for excellent freelancers, I suggest:

  • wellfound
  • contra
  • toptal
  • catalant (extremely exclusive for freelancers with a rigorous application process)
  • 99 designs

I have other suggestions, too, if you'd like. It'd be helpful to know what, exactly, you're looking for with design and marketing since those are pretty broad.

@cat great list. Let's focus on marketing: mainly i'm looking for general advice and very specific content work and/or growth hacking for SaaS products in data-y space.
