Should I ask makers if they want to be listed in a resource database, or should I just list them and tell them later?

Background: One of my small projects is curating a list of travel resources, primarially ones made by makers. Is it better to ask each maker if they want to be listed, or just list them and tell them later?

It is better to ask for forgiveness than permission. Whats the worst that could happen? the makers say "Please take my name off". Asking for permission makes whatever you are making seem by default sketchy or by default their names are valuable and should receive compensation for listing it. If none of the above is the case list and see what happens next

Perfect, thank you for keeping my head straight!

list them first and tell them later. Everyone loves free publicity
